Cookies notice

Last updated 25 July 2026 · v1.1

We use two cookies: one that remembers whether you prefer the light or dark theme, and one that remembers your response to our cookie banner so we do not ask again. There is no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking on this site.

What are cookies

Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device so it can remember something the next time you visit. They are widely used to make websites work — for example, keeping you signed in, or remembering an interface preference.

Cookies can be "session" (deleted when you close the browser) or "persistent" (kept for a defined lifespan). They can be "first-party" (set by the site you are visiting) or "third-party" (set by another domain that the site loads content from).

Cookies we use

We use two first-party, persistent cookies. Both are strictly necessary or functional; neither carries personal data and neither is shared.

Theme preference

Name lr_theme
Purpose Remembers whether you selected the light or dark theme, so the site does not flash the wrong theme when you next load a page.
Value Either the string light or dark. No personal data.
Lifespan Up to 1 year, or until you clear it in your browser.
Category Functional. Set only if you allow the "Functional" category on the cookie banner.
Set by This site (first-party). Never shared.

The cookie is set only after you use the theme toggle. If you never toggle, no theme cookie is stored.

Cookie-banner response

Name lr_consent
Purpose Remembers your response to the cookie banner so it does not re-appear on every page you load.
Value One of all, functional, or necessary — a short string, no personal data.
Lifespan 180 days, or until you clear it in your browser.
Category Strictly necessary. Not subject to consent under Regulation 6(4)(b) of PECR — without it we cannot honour a "no" answer.
Set by This site (first-party). Never shared.

See the consent banner section below for how the choices work.

What we do not use

To be explicit:

  • No analytics cookies. We do not use Google Analytics, Plausible, Fathom, or any other analytics platform. Server access logs are the only usage information we have.
  • No advertising or marketing cookies.
  • No third-party scripts, tracking pixels, social-media beacons, or session-recording tools.
  • No fingerprinting techniques.

If we ever add a category of cookies that would require consent under PECR, we will disclose it on this page first and treat your existing choice appropriately.

The consent banner

The first time you visit the site — or the first time you visit after clearing your cookies — a small panel appears at the bottom-centre of the page asking how you want your cookies handled. It stays visible on every page you load until you respond.

The banner offers three choices:

  • Accept — allows the theme cookie (lr_theme) to be set the next time you toggle the theme.
  • Reject — declines the theme cookie. Your theme choice will not persist between visits; the site falls back to your system's light/dark preference on each load.
  • Manage — opens a panel with individual toggles for each category (strictly necessary, functional, marketing), so you can choose a mix and save it. Strictly necessary is always on because the site cannot function without it; marketing is disabled because it is not used.

Whichever you pick, the response is stored in the lr_consent cookie (see the previous section) so the banner does not appear again for 180 days. The banner is a courtesy: our only non-essential cookie is functional, so under PECR consent is not strictly required — showing the banner lets you say no anyway.

To see the banner again, clear lr_consent from your browser (or clear all cookies for this site); it will re-appear on your next visit.

Controlling cookies

Two ways to change what we store:

  • Change your banner response. Clear the lr_consent cookie in your browser; the banner will re-appear on your next visit and you can pick again.
  • Delete cookies entirely. Clearing all cookies for this site removes both lr_theme and lr_consent. The site will fall back to your system light/dark preference and the banner will re-appear.

Instructions for the major browsers:

  • Chrome
  • Firefox
  • Safari (iOS and macOS)
  • Edge

You can also configure your browser to refuse cookies from this site specifically. The site will continue to work; the theme preference will not persist between visits and the banner will appear on every visit.

A quick note

We use one functional cookie to remember your theme preference — no analytics, no advertising. See our cookies notice for the detail.

Strictly necessary

Required for the site to function. Cannot be turned off.

Functional

Remembers your theme choice (light or dark).

Marketing

Not used on this site.

Site storage is blocked

Your browser is refusing to store cookies for this site. Two small functional cookies (theme preference and your response to this notice) cannot be saved, and the site's preferences will reset on every page. No analytics or advertising cookies are used here. Allow cookies for www.little-rascal.uk to restore normal function.
